Nitrate Removal from Synthetic Wastewater by Chlorella salina in open pond

The use of microalgae in effluent treatment has been under exploration in recent decades and the laboratory experiments were performed to study the nutrient removal of nitrate by marine microalgae, Cholrella salina. Nitrate was removed by open pond photobioreactor on 7th day for nitrate concentrations between 30 and 100 ppm, resulting in nitrate removal rates for Chlorella salina in dairy and slaughterhouse synthetic wastewaters were 100% and 71%, respectively. The present results suggest Chlorella salina is the Better performance in growth than the open pond for nutrient removal from synthetic wastewater and it can improve the quality of water for their discharging limits.
