Weapon Locating Radars (WLR) or fire finder radar s are used to detect and locate enemy unguided rockets, mortar a nd artillery units by tracking the trajectory of incoming curves. Th ey can also provide fire correction of friendly artillery units. S ince there is a few published researches available on WLR signal processing, the authors propose and compare the performance o f two curve-fitting techniques for extrapolation in fire finder rad ars in friend and hostile mode using experimental data. Th e two methods are 1) first order extrapolation and 2) second order extr apolation. Simulation results with real data and using digital env ironment map for a radar show that the low complexity first ord er extrapolation method is acceptable for finding artillery locatio n and the second order extrapolation method has better perform ance in mortar, rocket and artillery location finding in expense o f more complexity.
