The lanthanide complexes (specially terbium) possessing properties including large stokes shift, long decay times, high sensitivity, good stability, good accuracy and relative selectivity could be used for the determination of organic components, drugs, nucleic acids, proteins and trace amount of rare earth ions in aqueous solutions and biological matrices. The terbium complexes were used for direct and indirect determination of drugs [1, 2]. Quantum dots, are nanoparticles with the peculiarities of a unique optical the ability to publish light with different colors have and color of the light depends on the size of Crystal them. These dots are also in, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, much attention [3].A new spectrofluorimetric method is reported for the determination of cefixime, based on it quenching effect on the fluorescence intensity of terbium-cadmium sulfide complex as a fluorescent probe. The influences of pH, buffer concentration, type of buffer, volume of cadmium sulfide quantum dots, concentration of terbium, addition order of the reagents, time and temperature were studied and under the optimal conditions, the linear ranges were obtained in the ranges of 0.08-7 mgL-¹, for cefixime, its quantification limits of 0.02 mgL-¹ and with the RSD, 1.96% . The proposed method was satisfactorily applied to the determination of cefixime in human serum and urine.
