Magnetic multiwall carbon nanotube (MMWCNT) is a convenient, fast, simple and efficient enrichment adsorbent for extraction of trace amounts of Zn in different samples. This sorbent was synthesized by in situ chemical coprecipitation of Fe+2 and Fe+3 in the alkaline solution in the presence of CNTs [1]. The MMWCNT were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The prepared sorbent was used for preconcentration and determination of Zinc. The complex form of Zinc with 8-hydroxyquinoline was extracted by functionalized MMWCNTs. The sorbent was easily separated from the aqueous solutions using magnetic field (1.4T). Adsorbed analytes were desorbed and analyzed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) [1,2]. Under optimized conditions, limit of detection 0.046 µg L-1 and relative standard deviation 1.92% (n=5) were obtained. A linear response was achieved in the concentration range of 0.2 – 50 µg L-1. The presented procedure was successfully applied for determination of zinc in tap water, mineral water and specific pathogen free(SPF) eggs.
