One of the biggest problems in producing crude oil is the presence of impurities in this underground energy source. Most of these impurities are water, salt, hydrogen sulfide and others that are formed in crude oil and underground reservoirs and extracted from the wells with crude oil.On the other hand, there are other impurities in crude oil that are added to it during the production process for various reasons such as production and corrosion control. Chlorinated organic compounds are one of the impurities that are not part of the crude oil and enter the crude oil in the process of production and processing. These types of organic chlorides also cause a lot of damage in the industry, such as corrosion in the refinery [1] and the deactivation of catalysts [2], and also cause some problems, including health risks due to mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. Hence, attempts are made to measure these compounds. The purpose of this study was to measure the organic chlorine present in oil by using carbon skeletal gas chromatography. In this method, organic chlorides are simultaneously hydrogenated and dechlorinated using a palladium catalyst at 280° C. Using this method, the amount of chlorine in crude oil was measured to concentrations less than 1 ppm.
