Coumarins are naturally occurring benzopyrene derivatives, A lot of they have been identified from natural sources[1]. Coumarins have attracted intense interest in recent years because of their diverse pharmacological properties[2]. 7-Amino-4 trifluoromethyl coumarin (L) (C151) (10-6mol.l-1) has been used to detect amounts of Hg(II) and Fe(III) ions in acetonitrile-water solution. Fluorescence studies exhibits high selectivity toward Fe(III) and Hg(II) ions in comparison with common metal ions (K+,Mg+2, Al+3, Co+2, Ni+2,Cu+2, Zn+2,Ag+,Cr+2,Cu+2). The emission intensity increases by addition of various concentrations of Hg(II) ions. While the response of the sensor show the strong fluorescence quenching of (L) by Fe(III) ions.
