The Advantage of Using NFC Technology for Medical Data Transfer

Background: Today, IT (Information Technology) is very wide and covers many areas, including health care systems. With development of technologies, we are looking for Megatrend in healthcare Organization. One of the largest IT challenges in the health and medical fields is the ability to collect, store and transfer the data and information of patients. Moreover, applying technology in different parts of healthcare system can create great potentials for improving the quality of healthcare services. So we apply NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in Our healthcare system. This system helps the doctor to provide better medicine to the patient and prevent wrong medication to the patient. NFC technology is a short range high frequency wireless communication technology. In this healthcare system we are also using NFC tag. NFC tag is based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. In this system nurse perform various works by just tapping NFC enabled mobile phone to NFC tag. And give prescription to the patient with the help of the doctor. Objectives: The purpose of this article is improvements in quality of identify, collect and also transfer data. Materials/Patients and Methods: It was a review article that was done through library studies and search in valid data bases like IEEE and advanced search in google. Results: NFC tags can store many information such as music, video, image and application. These tags can form a medical data in all of types as long as the patient hospitalized. We can use them for specific medical instructions to patients and offer to the nurses for improving their care. Including, the use of medicines prescribed by doctor that put the related orders for each patient on these tags, thus nurses and medical staffs can manage taking medication for each patient and present the better services, by using them. This will eliminate the possible errors in dosage form, pronunciation, orders and prescribing the wrong drug. In this case, it can accelerate the process of improving patient’s health. Also in emergencies and the time that person is not conscious, nurses can easily be informed by the tags of individual medical history and apply effective measures. It can improve the hospitals safety. Conclusion: Using NFC technology enhances health care services in the health system; specially, in case of emergency. This technology can fill the gap between information request and its availability. However, according to the benefits of the implementation of NFC technology, the following items are suggested for the implementation of this technology: • Preparing necessary budget • Making comprehensive policies, essential standards, and appropriate trends • Holding training courses in order to improve the knowledge and culture of applying this technology.
