Background: Intensive Care Unit Patient Information Systems generate, collect and store lots of information per patient in the ICU. Also, the use of the mobile health tools can help to more efficient and better communication between health care providers. In addition, the intensive care unit is one of the most complex environments in the healthcare sector. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to review the importance of clinical information systems based on mobile health on quality of care in the intensive care unit. Materials/Patients and Methods: This is a type of review article that was done through library studies and searches in valid databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and IEEE. Result: Studies have shown that the nurse has spent 20.5 percent of his time to the documentation and 54.9 percent to patient care in paper-based documentation but in ICIS-based documentation the nurse has spent 14.4 percent of his time to the documentation and 60 percent to patient care; as a result, the use of these systems reduced time documentation. Also, this technology helps the doctors in documenting complete, accurate and convenient format. In addition, it is possible to manage patient information, reduce medical errors, improve physician satisfaction, promote quality of care and information, increase cost-effectiveness, time saving and decision support. Also, it facilitates the follow-feeding of patients and improves quality of nutritional support. The results indicated that the implementation of ICIS allowed shortening the ICU length of stay. Before the implementation of this system, the length of stay was 8.4 and after implementation was 6.8. Conclusion: Today, doctors use personal digital assistants and smart phones to access the information that they need. These tools are important in reducing medical errors and improving health care.
