Background: the area of mobile health (mhealth) has been gaining attention in recent years. Due to its potential impact on healthcare, more professionals have been collaborating to solve problems in this domain. One of these problems is interoperability.
Objectives: This paper describes hl7 FHIR stretch in mhealth. This standard was surveyed as interoperability standard.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted on hl7 FHIR standard. Data was collected from articles, books, and magazines and English language websites. Search includes paper that published after 2012.
Result: HL7 messaging standards are widely implemented by the healthcare industry for decades. HL7 is now experimenting with a new approach to the development of standards with FHIR. Simple implementation, exchangeable content as a resources and high interoperability with other standard are some feature of this standard.
Discussion: achieving interoperability require adherence to international standard. FHIR is a new specification based on emerging industry approaches, but informed by years of lessons around requirements, successes and challenges gained through defining and implementing hl7v2, HL7 v3 and the RIM, and CDA. FHIR can be used as a stand-alone data exchange standard, but can and will also be used in partnership with existing widely used standards
Conclusion: by enabling mhealth system to share information with one another as well as with broader eHealth systems, efficiently will improve, cost associated with data collection will reduce and better care will provide for patients.
