Theoretical and Practical Issues in the Study of Collocations: a Critical Review

The current study reviews the collocation studies during the last decade to shed more light on the various facets of this linguistic phenomenon. In addition to an investigation into the theories related to collocation, some of the practical issues in pedagogical contexts are examined as well. In the first part, several collocational theory-based approaches are presented; then the studies dealing with the practical issues of collocation are reviewed. Above all, the influences of these studies on teaching and learning collocation are discussed. The study intends to provide the interested researchers with the most recent research orientation in the field.
