Objectives: In this study we decide to review termination of pregnancy in bitch by aglepristone in years: 1977-2014.Materials Methods: The data in this study was obtained from electronic journals of some web sites such as pubmed, Elsevier, scopus or google scholar. Mismate or pregnancy termination is one of the most common “reproductive” requests from dog owners. Ovariohysterectomy is the best method, but if the animal is a potential breeder, some drugs such as prolactin inhibitors (cabergoline, bromocriptine), dexamethasone and progesterone blockers (mifepristone and aglepristone) are used. Fieni et al (1997) showed that 14 days after the injection of aglepristone in mid pregnancy (Day 26 to day 45), 94.4% of the bitches lost pregnancy and rate of early pregnancy termination (Day 0 to day 25) was 100%. Aglepristone can be used any time up to day 45 for safe effective termination of pregnancy (Fieni et. al,2001). Galac et al (2000) showed that using aglepristone in mid-gestation, terminated pregnancy occurred within 4 to 7 d after the start of aglépristone treatment in 5 beagle bitches. Pettersson Tidholm (2009) indicated that subcutaneous injections of aglepristone (20 mg/kg) in 22 bitches in mid-pregnancy, was terminated in 21 bitches (95 %). Kanca Karakas (2012) showed that aglepristone at lower-than-standard doses (5 mg/kg, 7.5 mg/kg, or 10 mg/kg) effectively prevents pregnancy in 48 mismated bitches. In a study by Kaya (2014) 14 pregnant bitches between day 25 and 32 of gestation were used. In one group aglepristone was administered (10 mg/kg), whereas in other group, aglepristone and cloprostenol (1 μg/kg BW) were combined. All pregnancies were successfully terminated. Results  Conclusion: Considering the major role progesterone plays in maintaining pregnancy, Administration of the antiprogestin: aglepristone, is the current method of choice in pharmacological treatment for prevention of nidation and implantation in bitches.
