The effects of Pistacia atlantica subsp kurdica on amastigote form of Leishmania major ulcers in Balb/c mice

Objectives: Rural cutaneous Leishmaniasis which is considered as a hygienic challenge in many countries and Iran. Applying the pentad-fold antimony to treat this disease has side-effect for the patients. This research investigated the impact of pistaciaatlanticasubspKurdica on the experiment ulcers which has caused by Leishmania major in BALB/C mice. Materials Methods: In this research, various concentration effects (5%, 25%, and 50%) of Pistacia atlantica subs pkurdica during 6 weeks. experimental contamination with inoculation of cutaneous promstigots of standard Leishmania Major (ER75MRHO/IR) in female mouse (BALB/c) in five groups including control group, groups with usage of concentration of 5%, 25% and 50% essential oil, control and treatment with Glucantime were done. The treatment was done through topical ointment, once a day during 6 weeks. Each week, the ulcer diameter and parasitic load was calculated. Results: there was significant relationship between reduction of ulcer decimal average and treatment duration such that in all the treatment groups during the experiment, ulcer decimal average had reduction procedure. But, in applying Vaseline during treatment increased ulcer decimal average observed.The result showed the highest impact in reducing ulcer decimal in 50% concentration. Also, in treatment groups, significant reduction were clarified in parasitic load.in all the treatments reduction of parasitic load was significant. Also, the highest parasitic load was in Vaseline group and in the lowest parasitic load was in ointment group with 50% concentration.Conclusion: The result showed the significant difference in reducing the ulcer decimal by Pistaciaatlanticasubspkurdica. Treatments with various concentration of Pistaciaatlanticasubspkurdica ointment cause reduction in ulcer diameter. According to the results more research on the use of different concentrations of this essential oil is recommended
