Objectives: Nowadays, the use of herbal plants as antimicrobial agents for controlling and treatment of bacterial disease in poultry industry are increasing. In this study the effect of five extracts was surveyed on two pathogenic bacteria, Materials Methods: Pre-hepatitis and Cloacal samples were spread onto MacConkey agar plates and incubated overnight at 37°C. One of the pink colour colonies from each plate was picked, spread onto Eosin Methylene Blue agar plates, and incubated overnight at 37°C. Four rounds of dilution foreach herbal extract were accomplished. In first dilution,20 mg/0.1ml of each extract were dissolved in sterile water. These dilutions included 1 and 0.125. Susceptibility of two bacteria to the extracts was determined by the disc diffusion assay. The culture media was TSA seeded with these bacteria. Paper discs (5mm in diameter) impregnated with plants extract were placed on the surface of the culture plates and incubated at 37°C for 24 hrs and diameter of zone of inhibition were measured in mm.In this study, tetracycline disc diffusion was used as control group. Results Conclusion: Each extract tested in the present study displayed antibacterial activity on two bacterial strains exceptCarthamustinctoriusextract. However, differences were observed between antibacterial activities of the extracts. Orobanche Ramose, Ziziphus rotundifolia, Plantagopsyllium and Ficus carica shows significant antibacterial activity that may be due to the presence of many potent antibacterialscompounds. The ethanolic extracts of Orobanche Ramose showed maximum inhibitory effect against both bacteria tested in disc diffusion method. The inhibition zone of Orobanche Ramose disc was 24 mm against salmonella sp and 16 mm on E. coli culture that were more than tetracycline disc diffusion assay. Their antibacterial properties indicate that they can be introduced as a replacement antibiotic to treatment and complementary therapy.
