Objectives: Herbal drugs are prescribed widely because of their effectiveness, less side effects and relatively low cost. In spite of the presence of known antidiabetic medicine in the pharmaceutical market, remedies from medicinal plants are used with success to treat this disease. Many traditional plant treatments for diabetes are used throughout the world. The purpose of this study was determination of antidiabetic activity of alliumnoeanumReut. exRegel (Valek-e-souri in Persian and Sourane in Kurdish). To our knowledge, this is the first study on antidiabetic properties of the plant. Materials Methods: We use from 24 mice in four groups (Group 1: Diabetic control mice received STZ (50 mg/kg, i.p.) and served as the diabetic control. Group 2: Diabetic mice received glibenclamide (500 µg/kg, p.o.). Group 3: Diabetic mice received receivedethanol extract of allium noeanumReut. ex Regel(200 mg/kg, p.o.). Group 4: Diabetic mice received ethanol extract of allium noeanumReut. ex Regel (400 mg/kg, p.o.). ). The effect of extract on serum biochemistry such as glucose levels, total protein, creatinine, and Aspartataminotransferase(AST) were measured. Results  Conclusion: The amount of glucose, total protein, creatinine, and ASTin day 16 that were killedas follows respectively: Group 1: 236.25±8.77, 6.20±0.40, 0.27±0.05, 215.50±43.00. Group 2: 130.20±7.85,5.46±1.69, 0.28±0.08, 298.80±108.15. Group 3: 147.25±13.07, 6.65±0.46,0.30±0.00, 169.00±37.53. Group 4: 128.75±11.87, 6.70±0.75, 0.30±0.01, 154±61.37. As they are seen amount of glucose andAST reduced in Group 3 and 4 to Group 1 and amount of total protein increased in Group 3 and 4 to Group 1. In conclusion, our biochemical evaluations suggest the strong antidiabetic potential of ethanol extract of allium noeanumReut. ex Regel. Its antidiabetic activity may be related to increased insulin secretion activity.
