Objective: Spoilage of protoscolices of hydatid cyst during surgery and recurrence of secondary hydatid cyst is as one of major complications of hydatidosis surgeries. So research to find an ideal scolocidal agents and/or access to new drugs to definitive treatment is ongoing. Gallic acid (3, 4, 5-trihydroxy benzoic acid), a major compound found in many plants, have anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-oxidant properties and also help to treat albuminuria and diabetes. The present studywas aimed to evaluate the effective concentrations of gallic acid on protoscolices of hydatid cyst.Material method: Protoscolices were aseptically collected from natural hydatidosis liver of sheep slaughtered in Ahvaz abattoir, Iran. After washing protoscolices with normal saline for several times, they were exposed to two concentrationsof gallic acid (30 and 35 mg/ml) for 1 and 3 minutes. Viability of protoscolices was confirmed by 0.1% eosin staining. Result and conclusion: Results were shown that the mortality rate of gallic acid at concentration of 35 mg/ml for 1 and 3 minutes of application were 86% and 100%, respectively. The scolocidal effect of gallic acid at concentration of 30 mg/ml after 1 and 3 minutes treatment were observed 30% and 69%, respectively. While the rate of dead protoscolices was 10.3% in the control group. This invitro study show that gallic acid as a mainphenolic composition of many herbal scolicidal agents have fair scolicidal activity,
