The effect of probiotics on glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) in Iranian goats

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential capacities of bioactive probiotic compounds as a replacement for antibiotics and antibacterial compounds as well as prevention immune suppressive effect of Pathogenic Microorganisms in weaning kids.Materials Methods: Probiotics are now replacing the chemical growth promoters for farm animals and claims have also been made for increasing resistance to disease.Protexin is a completely natural probiotic product, it is green and alive, contains 9 strains of Lactobacillus bacteria, fungi and yeast (Probiotics International Ltd., England).Levucell SC-2is naturally occurring and well defined rumen specific live yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077, France). 24 Iranian native growing kids (19.5±0.6 kg initial weight and 4 months of age) were used in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 6 replicates for 75 days to evaluate the effect of probiotics on activity of liver enzymes (GOT and GPT) in kids. Composition of the basal diet was the same for all groups. Kids were fed experimental diets for 14 days adaptation followed by a 75 days fattening period. The treatments were: 1) fattening diet without probiotic (control group), 2) fattening diet plus 1 gr/d microbial probiotic (Protexin) per kid, 3) fattening diet plus 2 gr/d yeast (Levucell SC-2) per kid and 4) fattening diet plus 1 gr/d yeast (Levucell SC-2) and 0.5 gr/d microbial probiotic (Protexin). At the end of the experimental period blood samples were collected from jugular vein of the kids, 4 hours after morning feeding.Results Conclusion: The results showed that probiotics had significant differences onliver enzymes activity (GOT and GPT).The highest level of activity between the treatments belongs to the treatment receiving diets containing protexin (P 0.05).
