Effect of different sources of probiotics on blood cells in Iranian native growing kids

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate theprobiotic supplementation on blood cells such as Hematocrit concentration and white blood cellsof indigenous kid’s.Materials Methods: Protexin is a completely natural probiotic product, it is green and alive, contains 9 strains of Lactobacillus bacteria, fungi and yeast (Probiotics International Ltd., England).Levucell SC-2is naturally occurring and well defined rumen specific live yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077, France).24 kids (19.5±0.6 kg initial weight and 4 months of age) were used in a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 6 replicates for 75 days to evaluate the effect of probiotics on blood cellsin kids.The treatments were: 1) fattening diet without probiotic (control group), 2) fattening dietplus 1 gr/d microbial probiotic (Protexin) per kid, 3) fattening diet plus 2 gr/d yeast (Levucell SC-2) per kid and 4) fattening diet plus 1 gr/d yeast (Levucell SC-2) and 0.5 gr/d microbial probiotic (Protexin).Results Conclusion: The results showed thathematocrit concentration in the group fed with protexin had the highest level and that was statistically significant (P 0.05). The mean percent of Monocyte and Eosinophil had no significant difference between treatments (P 0.05). The concentration ofNeutrophils and Lymphocytes had significant differences between treatments and the mean concentration in the treatment 4 had the highest rate (P 0.05). In a way that the percent of Neutrophils in the control treatment had the lowest level and in the treatment 3had the highest level. Furthermore, the percent of Lymphocytes in the control treatment had the highest level and lowest level in the treatment 3. In the diet ofkids can be used probiotics without any negative effect on the blood cells.
