Objectives: Diabetes is a common metabolic disease with many side effects (1). In Diabetes blood glucose increases and metabolism of proteins and lipids impaired. Today, diabetes is considered as one of the important problems in the world. The main cure for diabetes is insulin and other glucose reducer drugs such as Glibenclamide. However, these drugs have adverse effect such as shrinking fat tissue at the injection site and hypoglycemic shock. Today necessity to find effective compounds for the treatment of diabetes with fewer side effects still exist (2). Pistacia Atlantica tree is growing in Iran and oil extracted from its seeds has medicinal effect. Because of unsaturated fatty acid, reduce blood lipid and assume to decrease cardiovascular disease. Studies showed turpentine oil increase HDL-C and decrease LDL-C in female rabbit (3). The aim of this study is to Comparison of Turpentine Oil and Glibenclamide on the Serum Concentration of Glucose, Cholesterol and Triglyceride in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic mice.Material and methods Preparation of turpentine oil: The Pistacia Atlantica seed was collected during September2015 from chaharmahal province. The dried seed were powdered with a blender and the ground samples oil were extracted via press.Animals: Thirty male mice weighing about 25‐30 g purchase from Pasteur Institute, Tehran. The animals were housed in cages for three weeks and they received pellet diet during this time. Induction of Diabetes: For induction of diabetes, the mice were injected alloxan monohydrate at a dose of 120 mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneally two weeks before the treatment start. Then fasting blood samples were collected from the mice and blood glucose was measured to ensure of the induction of diabetes. Glucose level 250 was defined as diabetes (4,5).Experimental Design: 30 female mice divided in 3 groups as follows: Group1: control was treated by alloxan monohydrate. To equalize stress normal diet were given in all groups.Group2: included diabetic mice that received Turpentine Oil 10% in drinking water daily.Group3: included diabetic mice that received Glibenclamide 0.6 mg/kg intraperitoneally daily.Blood Sample Collection: 48h after last injection blood samples were collected and Blood serum Glucose, Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels were measured using routine laboratory methods.Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed using ANOVA andTukey’s test, with a significant level P 0.05.
