چكيده نفوذ انديشه هاي تكثرگراي غربي و توليد پارادايم هايي متفاوت با فرهنگ سنتي جامعه سبب ايجاد دگرگوني هاي بسياري در حوزه معماري گرديد سنت درايران عليرغم ورود و هجوم انديشه ي تجدد همواره در متن و حاشيه زندگي مردم حضوري اساسي داشته است اين حضور به واسطه باورها ارزش هاي عميق انديشه ايراني قابليت ها و استعداد آنها مي باشد كه در پذيرش و استحاله انديشه هاي بيگانه اگرچه با كندي ولي استادانه عمل نموده است سنت چند هزارساله ايراني مملو از تلخي ها و شيريني هاي فراوان بوده كه تا حدود اوايل دوره قاجار هر دو وجه آسماني و زميني خود را حفظ كرده بود از آن پس درجدالي آشكار با افكار تازه نوعي اغتشاش و آشفتگي بر آن مستولي گشته بوده با گذشت زمان معماري ايراني اقدام به بازيابي خويش، مرور تاريخ خلاقيت و حضور در مجامع بين المللي براي مطرح نمودن انرژي نهفته در سنت و هويت و تأييد و تثبيت آنها درمراكز فرهنگي نمود درنتيجه توجه به ارزش هاي سنتي مجدداً رونق گرفت دراين مقاله ابتدا به ارزيابي و گونه شناسي نظريات پيرامون هويت پرداخته مي شود و سپس به مرور مفاهيمي همچون هويت و عناصر و اجزا ء و ويژگي هاي لازم براي پايداري دگرگوني و ناپايداري آن پرداخته مي شود در پايان ضمن بررسي مصداقي وضعيت معاصر ايران و به بيان ريشه هاي بحران زايي و راهكارهاي بحران زدايي از فرهنگ و معماري معاصر ايران پرداخته مي شود.
