Lattices of rigidly connected ribs, known as grid structures, have many advantages over traditional construction
methods, with applications in panels, sandwich cores and aerospace frameworks. Optimizing structures means to
consider technical issues including maximum stiffness and minimum weight. In the present work, a theoretical model
was introduced for static analysis and behavior of lattice composite plates under a uniformly distributed pressure load.
In order to predict the static structural behaviors, this model was developed based on the classical lamination theory.
The governing equation and boundary condition were obtained and the variable coefficient equation was solved by
performing closed form Galerkin method. In this paper, an optimization procedure is proposed to minimize the weight
and deflection of lattice composite plates subjected to a distributed pressure load. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to
search the optimal design. Validity of the results is checked by making comparison with finite element method using
ABAQUS commercial software
