This work investigated the effects of functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (FGN) addition on the flexural
properties of FGN/basalt fiber/epoxy composite system. The specimens were fabricated by hand lay-up method with
different weight percent FGN (0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5). Nanocomposites containing 0.4 wt.% and 0.3 wt.% FGN showed
89.7% and 252.3% rise in their flexural strength and modulus of elasticity, respectively. Results highlighted the
important role that FGN played in enhancing the mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Improvement of
properties could be related to the uniform dispersion of FGN in the matrix and also perhaps causing stronger
interfacial bonding between the basalt fiber and the matrix in the nanocomposite system.
