The use of composite materials with their high stiffness, high strength, and modulus makes polymeric
matrixes even more competitive for many applications. In this work, ammonium perchlorate reinforced hydroxyl
terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) polymer composites were developed by mechanical stirring followed by casting
technique. A systematic approach via Taguchi design of experiments (DoE) was implemented to investigate factorial
effects of NCO/OH ratio (R value), triol/diol ratio (ρ), bonding agent and plasticizer concentration on the mechanical
properties of the composites. Taguchi approach enables to determine optimal parameter settings that lead to
maximization of modulus at moderate elongation. The results indicate that the concentration of plasticizer and R value
have a more significant effect comprised to ρ and bonding agent content on the mechanical properties of the obtained
composites.
