In 1916 Susan Glaspell wrote Trifles, based on real happenings that had happened in Iowa, a state in America known for its farming, in the last year of nineteenth century. Trifles is a one-act play that concentrates on gender relationships, power, as well as female and male subjectivities. This paper explores how Trifles deploys multi-faceted power of narratives to reconstruct subjectivities. I propose the thesis that Trifles is a female oriented exploration of women’s condition in a male oriented farming area, trying to reconstruct new female identities through dismantling of dominant subjectivities.
