In this study, the ability of surfactant-modified zeolite (SMZ) to remove Dibenzothiophene (DBT) from oil model was investigated. Zeolite was modified with four different natural surfactants including Ziziphus Spina Christi, Liquorice, Rosemary, and Tragacanth. The zeolite bed that was modified at 1 g Rosemary concentration showed good performance in removing DBT. In fact, our research has been using a different surfactant to prepare various ZSM-5 based heterogeneous catalysts to produce low-sulfur fuels combining liquid-liquid extraction and oxidative processes.
