In this research activated clay was treated with sulfuric acid for the process of removing trace olefins from aromatics stream. Natural clay and activated clay were characterized by X-ray Diffraction, X-ray Fluorescence, BET surface area analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRF Analysis showed replacement of interlayer cations of natural clay with H+. XRD analysis approved structural stability of clay against acidification. SEM images showed acid treatment eroded edges of natural clay while edges of platelets became more opened. The pilot test of natural clay and activated clay showed acidic procedure has significant influence on catalytic activity of clay.
