One of the most important and common unit operations in the chemical and petroleum industry is distillation column. Benzene concentration in the bottom product of distillation column is the desired variable to be predicted. The objective of this paper is to design an inferential sensor for estimation of Benzene concentration in a distillation column. It is shown that the modified fuzzy system can predict the concentration more accurate in comparison with conventional fuzzy system. The fuzzy system that is employed for prediction is Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy system and the optimization algorithm used for modification is particle swarm optimization.
