The literary value of the Avestan hymn to Miϑra

مهريشت، از كهن ترين سرودهاي اوستايي، دومين يشت اوستايي از نظر بلندي، و در زمرۀ اشعار ستايشي اوستا از لحاظ مضمون است. اسلوب شاعرانه اي كه در مهريشت به كاررفته است كاملاً ساختارمند و باقاعده است. سبك ادبي پيشرفته و شيوۀ شاعرانۀ بيان در اين سرود اوستايي حاصل كوشش خلّاقانۀ تخيّل شاعراني است كه صرفاً در صدد گردآوري نيايش-سرودهايي سرد و بي روح براي ايزدان نبوده، بلكه به معناي واقعي شعر سروده اند. گواهي هاي آشكاري در مهريشت وجود دارد كه نشان مي دهد اثري كاملاً حماسي است، اين شواهد، كه غالباً يا صفت هاي مهر هستند و يا تصويرهايي كه بسيار موجز عرضه شده اند، زماني ارزش حماسي خود را نشان مي دهند كه با رفتار پهلواناني چون گرشاسب و رستم مقايسه شوند. مهريشت چون به ادبيّات شفاهي تعلق دارد، از دو هنرسازۀ بسيار مهم، كه ويژۀ اين ادبيات است بهره مي برد: نخست تكرار (از تكرار كوچك ترين واحد زباني گرفته تا تكرار واژه، عبارت، جمله و بند)؛ و دوم، صفت هنري، كه به اثر حماسي جلوۀ بي مانند مي بخشد و معمولاً با تكرار آميخته است. افزون بر اين، ارائۀ مهر در سيماي يك جنگاور با تصويرهاي زنده، پويا و باشكوه از ويژگي هاي بارز مهريشت است كه آن را از يشت هاي ديگر اوستا متمايز مي كند.

The Avestan hymn to Miϑra is one of the oldest Yašts of the Avesta, and the second with regard to length. Mihr Yašt is entirely devoted to the praise of Miϑra, a deity with Indo-Iranian roots. With regard to its poetic structure, Mihr Yašt has been grouped into the hymnic type. The poetic style used in Mihr Yašt is based on a regular structure. The advanced literary style and poetic method of expression in this Avestic hymn was not created through the imagination of poets who attempted simply to collect cold and lifeless hymns devoted to the gods, but they have composed creative poetry in the real sense. There is clear evidence showing that Mihr Yašt is an epic work; we have many epithets of Miϑra, and some poetic images. We can know the value of this epic when comparing it with the deeds of heroes like Garšāsp and Rustam. Since Mihr Yašt belongs to the oral literature, the most important artistic devices that we can see in it are repetition, and epithets; usually a combination of these two devices has forms the outer structure of Yašts. Showing Miϑra as a warrior through live, dynamic and splendid imagery is one of the outstanding features of Mihr Yašt that distinguishes it from the other Yašts.
