Ranked set sampling (RSS) is appropriate for use when it is inexpensive to rank units without actually measuring them. This article studies reliability estimation based on RSS. By means of Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate behaviors of parametric and nonparametric estimators when the stress and strength variables have exponential distribution. The results indicate that the nonparametric estimator is superior from bias viewpoint, while the parametric estimators are preferred in terms of the mean squared error.
