Lifetime Improvement Using Fusion Center Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

A sensor network of nodes with wireless transceiver Capabilities and limited energy is considered. On the other hand, lifetime improvement is an important issue in the design of applications and protocols for wireless sensor networks. We propose an energy efficient data transmission by determining the optimal location of the fusion center in wireless sensor networks. Our purpose is to improve the network lifetime by saving more energy and increasing the residual energy of the sensors. An efficient method is considered based on particle swarm algorithm (PSO) to solve a sensor network optimization problem. PSO is a simple, effective and computationally efficient optimization algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed intelligent hierarchical technique can extend the network lifetime for different network deployment environments.
