مسكن همواره جزء نيازهاي اوليه انسان بوده و در طول تاريخ در پي تكامل بشر، مسكن نيز دچار تغيير و تحولات بسيار گرديده است ، خانه هاي يك يا دو طبقه ي شهرهاي قديم كه در تطابق با نيازهاي اقليمي و عملكردي ساكنان ساخته مي شدند، جاي خود را به مجتمع هاي مسكوني بلند مرتبه اي داده اند كه كمتر نشاني از اقليم و ويژگي هاي فرهنگي بستر خود را دارند. علاوه بر آن تصوري كه از شهرهاي قديم اذهان شهروندان باقي مانده است، كاملاً با آنچه امروزه در اكثر شهرهاي پر جمعيت با آن مواجه هستيم متفاوت مي باشد. امروزه ديگر شهرهايي كه كوچه هايشان با تناسبات انساني و جهت گيري متناسب با اقليم ساخته شده بودند به چشم نمي خورد و اين كوچه ها جاي خود را به خيابان هاي عريض با ساختمان هاي بلند مرتبه در لبه هاي خود داده اند كه به انسان و نيازهاي آن كمتر توجه گرديده است. شهرونداني كه در گذشته ساكن محلات قديمي بودند و در مراكز محلات ، بازارها،تكايا، مساجد گرد هم جمع مي شدند,امروزه در مجتمع هاي مسكوني زندگي مي كنند كه كمتر امكان ملاقات و بحث و مراوده با يكديگر را دارند. همواره برقراري تعاملات اجتماعي و انجام فعاليت هاي فرهنگي- اجتماعي از مهمترين نقش هاي فضاهاي شهري و بافت مسكوني شهرهاي قديم بود كه در سال هاي اخير متاسفانه مسائلي همچون افزايش جمعيت ، گراني قيمت زمين و ساير مشكلات اقتصادي موجب گرديده اين امر روزبه روز كمرنگ تر گردد. مي توان اظهار داشت ، اغلب مجتمع هاي مسكوني معاصر بدون توجه به نيازهاي رواني، تنها به تأمين نيازهاي فيزيكي ساكنان ، آن هم نه به صورت كامل پرداخته اند . در اين مقاله با بهره گيري از روش كتابخانه اي و با توجه به اسناد و مدارك موجود به بررسي چگونگي شكل گيري تعاملات اجتماعي در مجتمع هاي مسكوني و شناسايي راهكارهاي موثر جهت تقويت اين امر پرداخته شده است. بدليل اهميت توجه به كودكان و شيوه هاي رشد و تربيت آنها در بخشي از مقاله به بررسي فضاهاي بازمجتمع هاي مسكوني و تأثير آنها بر تربيت كودكان اشاره گرديده است. در انتها با توجه به اهميت برقراري تعاملات اجتماعي در مجتمع هاي مسكوني و نياز ساكنان به تامين فضاهايي كه اين امررا محقق سازند، سعي گرديده با جمع بندي مطالب بيان شده همچنين با بهره گيري از تجربيات به كار گرفته شده در ساير كشورها، راه كارهاي مناسب جهت طراحي فضاي باز عمومي در مجتمع هاي مسكوني ارائه گردد.
