ويژگي هاي متفاوت انسان ها در گذر زمان، از لحاظ فرهنگي باعث پيدايش خانه هايي با ويژگي هاي متفاوت و خاص شده است. در واقع مي توان چنين بيان نمود كه خانه بياني از فرهنگ انسانهاست. درچند دهه اخير تغيير سبك زندگي باعث تغيير فرهنگي درزندگي مردم شده است. همينطور كالبد خانه نيز دچار تغيير و دگرگوني اساسي شده است. سوال اصلي مقاله حاضر اين است كه فرهنگ تا چه اندازه اي در شكل گيري كالبد خانه هاي مدرن و سنتي تاثيرگذاراست؟روش تحقيق مورد استفاده در مقاله پژوهشي موردي است. براي بررسي ميزان تاثير فرهنگ در شكل گيري كالبد خانه،چند خانه، از دوره قاجار و معاصر در شهر ساري انتخاب شدند. بمنظور بررسي ميداني علاوه بر مشاهده، و به مصاحبه عميق با ساكنان قديم و كنوني اين خانه ها پرداختيم و بعد از حصول آشنايي ابتدايي با بستر فرهنگي دو محيط مصنوع مورد بررسي به تفكيك دو مفهوم فرهنگ و محيط پرداخته شد. سپس پيوند و ارتباط ميان اجزاء، در كل و جزء بناها بررسي شد. در گام نهايي با تجميع و تركيب دوباره اجزاء و تبيين پيوند ميان آن ها تعميمي حاصل شد كه طي آن رابطه بين فرهنگ و خانه به خوبي مشخص شد
