با كنكاشي در تاريخ شهرسازي و معماري ايران، شهرسازي و معماري دوران صفويه را مرور مي كنيم و مشخصه و ويژگي هاي شهرها و معماري بناهاي آن دوره را بررسي كرده و به طور كامل معماري مساجد و گرمابه هاي اين دوره كه از بناهاي شاخص و از مشخصه هاي شهر هاي عصر صفويه است را تشريح مي كنيم. سپس بناهاي به جا مانده از دوران صفوي شهر مهاباد را مشخص كرده و ويژگي هاي معماري هر يك را مورد بررسي قرار مي دهيم. روش تحقيق در اين نوشتار مبتني بر رويكرد تحليل تاريخي است. همچنين روش گردآوري اطلاعات نيز بر پايه مطالعات كتابخانه اي و مطالعات ميداني باستان شناختي استوار است. شهرسازي و معماري ايران و خصوصاً شهر مهاباد از شهرسازي و معماري عصر صفويه بهره برده و حكمرانان وقت دولت صفوي در منطقه توجه خاصي به اين شهر داشته و همواره براي گسترش و توسعه اين شهر تلاش كرده اند.
