In a general hospital, surgical teams perform elective surgeries in operating rooms (ORs); patients then recover in beds. Thesurgical durations and patient lengths of stay are not known with certainty in advance. In this research, a stochastic weighted goalprogramming model is proposed for creating a Master Surgical Schedule that optimizes the utilization of both the ORs and therecovery ward beds while accounting for the uncertainties in surgical durations and patient lengths of stay.
