A fuzzy DEA approach for mode selection in multimodal transportation

To have an effective transportation system, it is important to select proper transportation modes and routes and to do that, right tools will be needed. One of the recent development and widely used tools is data envelopment analysis and its various forms. This paper aims to use one of these forms, fuzzy DEA, to make decision among transportation modes. Fuzzy form is used to approximate decision making situations in the real world with its inseparable ambiguity and impreciseness. However, selecting a transportation mode is based on some evaluating factors and to do that, this paper uses factors which are applied in previous works. Two most popular fuzzy DEA approaches including, α-cut and ranking approach are used to determine efficient modes and their ranking. To show its application in multimodal route selection problem, an example from previous studies is used and solved by coding in GAMS software.
