In this work, an experimental investigation is performed on a new steelmaking facility in the desert region for the production of 1.500.000 t/y of steel billets. With traditional solution the raw water consumption was estimated at more than 650 m3/h.Cooling equipment with low water consumption (Dry and hybrid cooling tower) and internal recycling of the treated water drains has been adopted. It is found from the present study that raw water consumption will decrease by nearly 80%. The solution provides economic and environmental benefits, especially regarding the water chemical conditioning saving. This solution could also be applicable in other industrial areas.
