Vowel harmony,co-articulation and the tendency of vowels to each other

واكه‌هاي زبان فارسي را مي‎توان بر اساس طبقه‎بندي لازار[1] به دو دسته پايدار و ناپايدار تقسيم نمود. واكه‌هاي پايدار عبارتند از /i,u,ɑ/ و واكه‌هاي ناپايدار /e,o,a/ . در اين مقاله به هماهنگي و هم‎توليدي واكه‎هاي ناپايدار و پايدار در هجاهاي بدون تكيه پرداخته‎ايم. در هماهنگي واكه‌اي، يك واكه تحت تأثير واكه‎اي ديگر كه در هجاي مجاور قرار دارد، بخشي از مشخصه‎هاي آوايي خود را از دست داده‎ و مشخصه‎هاي واكۀ مجاور خود را مي‎پذيرد. در هم‎توليدي واكه به واكه نيز كه فرايندي آوايي است، يك واكه به واج‎گونۀ خود در بافت واكه‎اي ديگر تبديل مي‎شود. بر اين اساس واكه‎هاي ناپايدار در هجاهاي بدون تكيه با واكه‎هاي هجاي مجاور خود همگون شده و مشخصه‎هاي آوايي آنها را مي‎پذيرند.در اين مقاله ضمن ارائه مثالهايي از هر دسته از واكه‎هاي پايدار و ناپايدار نشان داده‎ايم كه واكه‌هاي ناپايدار به سوي يكديگر و نيز به سوي واكه‎هاي پايدار گرايش دارند، درحاليكه واكه‎هاي پايدار كيفيت آوايي خود را حفظ كرده و كمتر دستخوش تغيير و دگرگوني قرار مي‎گيرند.

Persian vowels are divided into stable and unstable vowels according to Lazard’s classification. Stable vowels are /i, u, ɑ/ and unstable vowels are /e, o, a/. In this article, we examined vowel harmony and vowel to vowel co-articulation in unstressed syllables. In vowel harmony, one vowel loses some parts of its distinctive features and accepts some features of other vowels. In vowel to vowel co-articulation which is considered as a phonetic process, one vowel in the context of another vowel changes to its allophones. Therefore in unstressed syllables, unstable vowels assimilate with other vowels of the following syllables and accept their phonetic features. In this article, several examples of both stable and unstable vowels were presented. The results showed that the unstable vowels have a tendency toward the stable and also other unstable vowels, but the stable vowels preserve their phonetic qualities and change less.
