Background: Shin splints is one of the most common exercise induced temporary leg pain in young competitive or beginner athletes. AMA defined that Shin splints are as a pain of discomfort in the leg from repetitive running on hard surface or forcible excessive use of the foot flexors or pain felt along the inner edge of shin bone Participating in these activities that require prolong or quick bursts of running or jumping , such activities may including field events, soccer ,basketball, volleyball and long distance running etc . It does not imply a specific diagnosis rather it is the symptom of pain over the front or lateral of the tibia bone. Therefore shin splints is simply the name given to pain over the front of the lower leg. Important cause and risk factors not determined yet .So the aim of this study was assess of Shin splints between knee deformity and anterior and posterior Tibia muscles strength in female students in Mashhad Ferdossi University.
Materials and methods: From a summation of 430 female first year physical education students randomly were selected 82 people with shin splints. They are participating as experimental samples in present study. Control samples were selected randomly 82 candidates among healthy students. All cases signed a consent sheets at entrance to this study. Then,Tibia anterior muscular strength, Tibia posterior muscular strength and medical knee were measured that to rolled out deformity. Descriptive statistics methods in this study were applied using SPSS software version 11.5.
Results: Data showed there are a relationships between Shin splints and anterior tibia muscles strength (p =0.032) but no any relationships between Shin splints and knee deformity and posterior tibia muscles strength (P 0.05).There was no significant different in the incidence of Genu Valgum and Genu Varum in healthy group and disease group (P 0.05).
Discussions: Shin splints commonly seen in athletic that suddenly increased the duration or intensity of exercise training. Shin splints may also see in athletic who have very high demand training such as marathon runners, even if their training level are dramatically increased, everyone has a different body mass, and each person body biomechanics differ slightly to each others. Body anatomical image and many intersect and extrinsic factors that may contributed to developed Shin splints. Results of this study showed there are a positive relationship between Shin splints and anterior tibia muscles strength but no any relationships between Shin splints and knee deformity and posterior tibia muscles strength.
