Fiber reinforced polymer composites have emerged as an appropriate substitution to the more prevailing
civil engineering materials for the creation, strengthening, rehabilitating and even retrofitting the
structures. The more engineers become aware of the unique features of advanced FRP composites, the
more these types of materials are utelized in reinforcing or prestressing concrete structures. One of the
main issues concerning with design requirements is the high interfacial stress concentrasion near the
edges of adhesively bonded composite joints which is responsible for the most dominant mode of failure,
that is the debonding failure. The present investigation deals with the stress analysis of adhesively bonded
single-sided simply-supported joint consisting of a concrete substrate reinforced with a layer of
transversely isotropic unidirectional GFRP fibrous composite cover using a robust computational
MATLAB code based on the elementary Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and calculating the total strain
energy followed by applying the theorem of minimum complimentary strain energy of the joint in order
to predict the entire interfacial shear and normal stress field distribution along the bonding line due to the
change in fiber orientations.
