A Thorough Study on Big Data

The Latin word data is the plural of datum and according to the current version of Wikipedia, data are values of qualitative or quantitative variables. With the increase in the amount of data in network devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and embedded sensors we are entering the era of big data . This data explosion would require special technologies and architecture for storing, processing and analyzing them economically. In this paper we will introduce big data or in other words scheme-free datasets by presenting three different definitions given through the years. After that various events that have had an impact on big data and also prepared the way for it are introduced. Finally, traditional and big data approaches for processing data are compared. The four components of data processing named: acquisition, access, analytics, and application would require efficient and specific methods for big data processing in order to store, process, analyze, and finally extract meaningful information from this huge amount of meaningless data.
