Experimental Survey of Vibration Stress Relief on stainless steel plates

This study attempts at investigating reduction of residual stresses from welding, by vibration method on stainless steel plates. For performing the experimental tests, some test plates were prepared as sample, also a vibration producing machine was constructed. Some of the samples were stress relieved by vibration method and the rest of specimens remained without any stress relief operation. To check, several destructive and non-destructive tests were executed on stress relieved and non-relieved specimens. Hereupon, acceptable results were attained indicating reduction of residual stresses. In addition, improvement of mechanical properties achieved by vibration stress relief method was studied, through using several examinations and tests such as hardness, impact, tension, bending and Metallography.
