Although English language teaching literature is replete with research on critical thinking and variables such as reading, writing, speaking proficiency, and vocabulary knowledge, to name just a few, in different cultural contexts, it seems that there is still room to dwell on the possible relationship between critical thinking and vocabulary knowledge of learners in an EFL context. To this end, a group of 149 English majors consisting of male and female learners studying at Payame Noor University, Mahabad Center, West Azarbaijan, Iran, filled out Honey’s Critical Thinking questionnaire (2000). Besides, the lexical knowledge of the participants was assessed on the basis of a 60-item vocabulary test adopted from TOEFL. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation procedure. The results of the study indicated that the correlation between vocabulary and critical thinking was not statistically significant.
