Automatic Cloud Resource Consolidation in Order to Promote Cloud Provider Profit in Cloud Infrastructure

By daily and excessively expanding the number of users connected to the global network1, using the online and network-based services is increased. By expanding the number of users who are online and connected to the internet, cloud computing2 has made this capability simpler by providing different services. Therefore, the cloud computing has been accepted, in one hand, by the investors and large information technology companies3 and, in another hand, by the internet users. Hence, the number of the cloud data centers which are providing different services to users over the world is annually increased. These data centers are made up of hundreds of computational hosts4 and tens of switches and other network equipment and they daily consume more energy. However, the investors of the cloud computing try to reduce the costs (including the power consumption5) to have more customers and they finally get more profits. Different methods like the static and dynamic management6 of the virtual machines and the automatic processor frequency adjustment system7 have been provided for reducing the energy. In this thesis, a risk-based dynamic cloud resource management algorithm is proposed for decreasing the energy of the data centers and increasing the profits of the providers and the results are implemented and evaluated by the CloudSim simulator8. The obtained results demonstrate a significant decrease in the energy consumed by the hosts and eventually, an increase in the profit by considering the amount of the service level agreement violation9
