Azo dyes are the largest group of synthetic dyes, and 10-15% of these dyes are usually lost in the effluent during synthesis and dyeing processes. The release of azo dyes into the environment has become a major concern in wastewater treatment, since some azo dyes and their metabolites may be mutagens or carcinogens.
Microbial decolorization methods have recently received much attention owing to its ease of application, low cost and environmental benignity. Studies were carried out on decolorization of textile azo dye, Reactive Yellow 145 (RY145) by newly isolated bacteria from effluent of Kashan textile industry.
The isolated bacteria, G1 showed remarkable ability in decolorizing the widely utilized Reactive Yellow 145. The isolated bacteria showed more than 84.3% of decolorization after 72 hours
