THE LEGAL ISSUE OF STEM CELL RESEARCH: A CASE STUDY IN IRAN

Embryonic stem cells have been isolated from human embryos that are a few days old. The potential for human stem cells to give rise to different types of bodily cells raises the possibility of major advances in healthcare. The use of human embryonic stem cells raises important ethical issues with the sources of cells, including embryos arising from infertility treatments, cadaveric fatel tissue, somatic cell nuclear transfer and elective abortion. there are widely differing views about the ethical issues raised by such research. In the present stuffy, for the first time, we have focused on the sources of the sources of embryonic stem cell. All criminal and legal laws of different sources of stem cells according to laws of Iran have been investigated. The result indicate that there exist even with a few criminal and legal laws in this regard, not being quite clear, they are also highly disputable. Our study proposes suggestions regarding the need to clarify the laws concerning the using of different sources of stem cells.
