سرمايه و دارايي مالي نقش مهمي در شركت و بنگاه‌هاي اقتصادي و تجاري دارد. شناخت بازار سرمايه و ابزار مالي و فناوري‌ها در بازارهاي سنتي و در بازار بورس الكترونيك از اهميت بالايي برخوردار است. بازار سرمايه، عمدتاً شامل، بازار اوراق بهادار، بازار كالا و بازار ابزار مشتقه است. تحولات در حوزه‌هاي مختلف مالي، اقتصادي، فن‌آوري اطلاعات، منجر به ابزار مشتقه در بازارهاي پولي و مالي بين‌المللي و ايران گرديده است. پژوهش با بررسي كتابخانه‌اي اسناد و مقالات سعي دارد انواع بازار كالا، خدمات، پول، سرمايه، بورس را در دو حالت سنتي و الكترونيك مقايسه نمايد و كاربرد فناوري اطلاعات و ابزار مشتقه در بازار بورس الكترونيك را كه يك چالش اصلي در ايران است را تأكيد نمايد. در اين پژوهش ضمن تعريف بازار به محل تلاقي عرضه و تقاضا و انجام فرآيند دادوستد و مرور ويژگي انواع بازار كالا، خدمات، پول، سرمايه و اوراق بهادار و فرق‌هاي آن‌ها به دسته‌بندي‌هاي متعدد بازار سرمايه مي‌پردازد و به‌كارگيري ابزار مشتقه و نقش فناوري‌هاي اطلاعات را در بازار بورس الكترونيك از دو جنبه مزايا و معايب مقايسه نموده و بر بهره‌گيري از ابزار مشتقه مالي در بازار سرمايه و بورس اوراق بهادار ايران تأكيد مي‌نمايد.
