Literary translation, especially poetry is not simply a communicative act, but, in addition to communication, it transfers culture and ideology of the source text. The purpose of this study was to investigate the dominant strategy in transferring and, rendering culture-specific items in translation of poetry from Persian into English. To achieve this goal, two Persian poems of SohrabSepehri namely Sound of Footsteps of Water and “The Traveler , were selected. The present study investigates domestication and foreignization, two translation strategies proposed by Venuti (1995), and sought to find which of the strategies was used more frequently in the English translation of the two popular Persian poems of SohrabSepehri, once done by BahiyehAfnan Shahid (2013) as the non-native translator and formerly by Karim Emami (2005) as the native translator. For the purpose of the present study, first, the cultural specific items are extracted based on the classifications that are proposed by Newmark (1988), Espindola Vasconcellos (2006), and Chung-ling (2010).Then, the cultural specific items and their translations has analyzed according to the procedures proposed by Davies (2003) and Aixelá (1996); (preservation of form, preservation of meaning, extra-textual gloss, intra-textual gloss, deletion, globalization, localization, transformation, and creation). After extracting CSIs from the source text and comparing them with their English translations, it was concluded that both translators have used all nine selected procedures .The obtained data showed that preservation procedure is the most frequently used procedure in translation of both native and non-native translators and foreignization strategy surpasses domestication strategy. And finally the results of the research revealed that there was no significant difference among the translations of two translators.
