Removing dyes from wastewater before its evacuate is a highly important strategy for water industry. The noteworthy increase in the application of dyes by several industries is resulting serious trouble on the environment as a result of incapability of bio-degradability and high toxicity of these components [1]. In this regard, methyl orange (MO) belongs to the widely used acidic/anionic dyes, and has been widely utilized in textile, printing, paper, food and pharmaceutical industries and research laboratories [2]. Hence, elimination of MO from wastewater is vital because of its potential toxicity to human and environment. In the present study, application of modified iron magnetic nanoparticles has been introduced as an efficient sorbent for removing of MO from industrial effluent. In this work, the magnetic nanoparticles were modified by cetyl trimetlyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Compared to unmodified iron nanoparticles, the modified nanoparticles were shown higher removal efficiency. The effects of various experimental factors on the removal efficiency of MO such as pH, concentration of CTAB, concentration of iron nanoparticles, temperature and time of incubation were optimized. The results showed this fact that the removal process at 45 °C reached to the highest value. The high sorption efficiency, simple fabrication, and biodegradability of the used nanoparticles are the advantages of this method.
