Recently, a lot of wastewater comprising of the widely visible synthetic dyes was discharged to aquatic environment as a result of the speedy growth of the modern textile industry. Several of these dyes are hazardous and can lead to crucial danger to the environment. During the last few decades, releasing of dyes wastewater without getting the treatment plan into water system has introduced dangerous environmental problems [1]. Indigo carmine (IC), a water-soluble disulfonate derivative, has a large amount of uses as a coloring material in several areas. It has been applied as textile dyeing agent, an additive in pharmaceutical, and so forth. IC is also utilized in analytical chemistry and biological fields [2]. The study of the elimination of IC from aqueous solution really should be efficient in further study and practical uses in wastewater treatment. In the current research, the removal of IC from wastewater samples is described. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with cetyl trimetlyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and used as sorbent. Characterization of the nanoparticles was achieved by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Batch adsorption experiments were performed to investigate the adsorption conditions and reusability of the adsorbent. The influences of several parameters such as pH, concentration of CTAB, concentration of nanoparticles, temperature and time of incubation were optimized to find the best conditions. Also, the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were investigated. The dye adsorption equilibrium data were fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm rather than Freundlich isotherm. Finally, the proposed nanoparticles were successfully utilized for removal of IC from wastewater samples.
