An analytical review of power system performance in developing and transition countries Part I developing countries

This two-part paper surveys the power system performance in developing and transition countries. In this first part a wide range of problems which are typical for developing countries including investment shortfalls, inefficient generation and transmission, lack of skilled workers, coal production and processing, are covered. Considering the specific position, fast expanding economy, diversity of typical problems, transparency and availability of data, power system of India is selected for study. The companion paper surveys the technical features of power system performance in transition countries.
