The soil quality concept evolved throughout the 1990s in response to increased global emphasis on
sustainable land use and health of plant, animal and humankind. Three ecological roles consist of food and
fiber production, recreation, and remediation or assimilation of wastes or other by-products were suggested
during the decade. Results of this study showed that using zeolites as natural soil amendments up to 20
ton/ha is in favour of three ecological roles. Zeolites are, therefore, used as a promoter for better plant
growth by improving the value of fertilizers; retaining valuable nitrogen and improving the quality of
chemical and physical soil properties.
